Our Investment Edge

The scarcity of professional research on small companies, along with inexperienced investors overreacting to daily fluctuations in market prices, creates an edge for experienced portfolio managers who know what to look for and how to do the research.

We operate in an area of expertise that larger firms find structurally challenging due to the lack of daily trading volume that does not provide enough liquidity to acquire a significant position.

By strategically limiting our capital and adhering to our investment process of what we feel the market may accept, we may have the opportunity to establish a position in a business before trading volume expands and institutions enter en masse.

The portfolio manager can provide for more rapid investment implementation compared to the manager-trader-investment committee relationship often found at larger firms.

Behind the Name

The Torii is a powerful symbol in Japan and is most notable as the entrance to the sacred area in and around a Shintō shrine. The distinctive form of the torii is recognized by people around the world as an icon to signal that you are about to enter hallowed space. It is so revered that it is also the symbol of the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment and the 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division and of other US forces in Japan.

Following the torii concept, Torii Asset Management views our clients’ valuable assets as sacred and has a mission to work towards fulfilling each client’s individual investment objectives.

"Our investment process and objective thinking lead to the timely identification of the best opportunities for a given economic and market climate, leading to favorable returns for our clients."
